Lawnmower

The lawnmower, is known by the name of ROY. It is neither an acronym that stands for something impressive nor a word that hints towards some colossal feat of engineering that went into the making of the lawnmower, but in fact a name given to the lawnmower that came from a dog the original team knew. ROY is three years old now and has competed last year in Ohio in the international ION (Institute of Navigation) competition and is looking forward to the competition this year. The technology that went into ROY is nothing short of ingenious. ROY is outfitted with a LIDAR, which is like a Radar or sonar but uses light instead or radio or sound waves, a sophisticated GPS system, capable of accuracies up to 1cm, and an ARM7 board, which a custom programmable embedded device that controls all of ROYS internal system. Atop his case sits a computer that brings all of these high level devices together, turning ROY into one lean green mowing machine.
